Lost in the infinite space of information by Heinz Innerhofer

These photographs radiate beauty, harmony and tranquillity. They seduce our gaze and cast a spell. Only at second glance does their disturbing andcryptic message unfold. Photographer Heinz Innerhofer and musician Tina Auer are the visual composers of this INFO-KAKOFONIA.

Helplessly lost in the infinite space of information, these frozen figures remain and seem to have crept into an absurd play or even an institution. Their environment created from information – whereby the newspaper pages stand for any medium of information – merged with it. Or this environment is blended in the verbal cosmos. Their stare goes into nothingness, perhaps as a reaction to excessiveness. The baroque-looking hairstyles leave a trace of associations in this in some respects similar to our time. One hides one’s grimaces behind thick layers of powder. One beautifies the façade that is crumbling. One agrees with a Memento Mori and believes in a Forever Young.

They look like marionettes. These information zombies are washed around by global news. The more you move around in the conglomerates of words and images, the faster you sink into the vicious drift of news. They let themselves be ensnared and captivated by floods of images and streams of words. Consciousness flashes up only briefly to burn up like a shooting star, unnoticed.

Never before could one so easily get information. But… who is lying? Who is telling the truth? Is the truth verifiable? Has it always been like this? Knowledge about the world is reduced to the question of faith. Which source can be trusted? And similar to the guardians of the many unique blissful religions, the information preachers also insist on their omniscience guarantee.

What to do? The information-flooded human being protects himself from the news by being blind and deaf. But this is no way out, even if such a way out exists at all.
