The Village Plaza comprises various facilities for athletes residing in the Olympic and Paralympic Village, including Café, General store and much more. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, athletes will generally not be permitted to travel outside of the competition venues, practice venues or the Village Plaza. With such restrictions in place, there is a significant need to provide services for the residing athletes in order to make their stays comfortable and convenient.
Among the services to be provided at Canon's Photo Studio is a "Photography Studio Service," in which athletes may request prints or data of their photos or copies of photos taken by staff. In addition, a paid "Self-print Service" will also be available, which enables athletes to print photos saved to their smartphones or tablets and digitally add Canon original photo frame designs to those photos.
Through the operation of Canon's Photo Studio and the imaging and printing services provided, the company hopes to create once-in-a-lifetime memories for athletes—including moments of comradery between rivals and teams cheering for their teammates on the field. Using the power of photography, Canon supports the bonds between athletes, families and fans from around the world. The Photo Studio will also implement robust COVID-19 infection control measures, including the use of a reservation system and protections against droplet-borne infections.
Canon is a Gold Partner (still cameras and desktop printers) of the Tokyo 2020 Games. Through the use of still cameras and desktop printers, Canon will contribute to the success of the Tokyo 2020 Games by providing visiting athletes with memories of defining moments, achieved through intense effort and training, captured in photographs that they may keep with them long after they've returned to their home countries.
