Painting with paper on canvas? What is it? Never heard of it. Many visitors of Henny Schlüter’s exhibitions ask her this or similar questions. This technique is new and its effects are fascinating. After many years of classical painting with acrylic, Henny is now in a new creative phase exclusively dealing with painting with paper on canvas. The art historian Freia Oliv called this kind of “painting without brushes” and thus somehow tells the essence of this medium.
Henny’s works are created exclusively with paper without conventional painting materials such as acrylic, oil, gouache, etc. She uses canvas as a painting background because unlike paper, canvas provides a firm base and also gives the colors even more radiance.

At first, paper appears profane and omnipresent. Only when working intensively with this material does it reveal its manifold qualities. The artist works with the paper in such a way that in the end, through colours, forms and structures, idiosyncratic picture creations with a wide range of variations are created, far away from conventional trends and currents.
