World Press Online Photo Festival 2021: A three day program of shows, presentations and dialogue

World Press Online Photo Festival 2021
 

The World Press Photo Foundation will host its annual festival online this year. The three day program will take place in a digital forum, including the awards show, presentations and dialogue.

Registrations will be available soon.Dates: 15-17 April 2021

 

Program

Day 1: ‘Awards Day’
Thursday 15 April 2021
Awards Show
15 April, 16:00-17:00 CET
The opening of the event will be the Awards Show, where we will spotlight the 2021 World Press Photo Contests category winners and announce this year’s four headline award winners, the World Press Photo of the Year, the World Press Photo Story of the Year, the World Press Photo Interactive of the Year and the World Press Photo Online Video of the Year.
World Press Photo Foundation’s executive director Joumana El Zein Khoury will give a word of welcome, and our patron Prins Constantijn will close the ceremony. The show will be moderated by global freestyle multi-media journalist Aldith Hunkar.

There is a lot of information to take in when looking at visual stories. NayanTara Gurung Kakshapati, the chair of the 2021 Photo Contest jury, and Muyi Xiao, the chair of the 2021 Digital Storytelling Contest jury talk about this year’s headline awards winners and take you through the judging process. What do they look at when judging visual stories? Why did the juries select this year’s winners?

The World Press Photo Café is a digital space where professionals can share their thoughts and discuss certain topics. During this session, participants will be invited to a breakout room with fifteen others and a topic host to talk about a question around the theme of ‘boosting thoughts.’ The format will allow for short conversations and sharing ideas and network.

Making, publishing, and seeing visual stories depend upon a series of freedoms – freedom of expression, freedom of inquiry, and freedom of the press. Places that erupt in protest are often the places where these freedoms are pressured. In this session, four 2021 Contests winners will dive deep into the field of tension that is reporting on protests in an environment where press freedom is not a given.
