Urquiza Railway Line

Melisa Reymundi

2021

March, 2020. Urquiza Railway Line, Buenos Aires, Argentina. You may find it tedious and almost impossible to travel during rush hours, because of the crowd and how everyone desires to reach their destination. The daily routine could lead us to resent the train which comes along with us every day. Thus, an afternoon at the train station, I kept waiting for an empty train to arrive. I stood in the middle of a wagon and I rendered the train the relevance it deserves. My goal was to capture it from inside, from the an aesthetic point of view, showing off the variation of its colors and its characteristic features, those which make it unique, but they are not always appreciated.

The Mevlevi Dancer

Abdelhamid Fawzy Tahoun

Tanoura is an Egyptian dance, performed in circular motions, which has its spiritual origins in Sufism. Its performers believe that all movement in the universe starts and ends at the same point, so this is reflected in the dance, with the continuous spinning making them appear like planets moving in space.

There are three species of orangutans in the world, and all three are in serious danger of extinction, mainly because of the destruction of their habitats in the jungles of Southeast Asia, which are used for palm oil cultivation. Only 70,000 individuals remain worldwide. Humans and orangutans share 97% of the genome. Along with chimpanzees and gorillas, they are our closest relatives in the animal world.

Roscasiri

Uriel Montufar

2021

With the traditional "Roscasiri" ceremony, the lieutenant governors of the Pomata district, Chucuito province, Puno Region, Peru, welcomed the new year, highlighting one of the most deeply rooted customs of the Aymara area. This ceremony consists of covering the new communal authorities (lieutenant governors) with bread as a symbol of abundance and wishing them good omens for the coming year where they will assume their functions, these peculiar outfits are made with the famous Pomata bread, known for its delicious flavor and its thread shape, wood-fired for the occasion and whose cost ranges from four to five for one sol. In this year 2021, 10 lieutenant governors with their respective wives were sworn in in this section, the outfits are made with more than 200 of these breads, (some also put pantheons on it), weighing 30 kilos that each political authority has to carry dancing around the official podium accompanied by his lieutenant. The locals describe the threaded as a preview to see the agricultural campaign. If the lieutenants have a large number of decorations, it means that it will be a good year, and the bread also symbolizes the abundance of products they will have in the coming year.
