The online Women Art Prize/X-treme, initiated by Martina Singer and Lily Fürstenow-Khositashvili aims to promote women in the contemporary art system. Unfortunately, women artists are strongly underrepresented in contemporary art. Therefore, the curators have initiated this international online art competition for women artists, regardless of age, nationality and country of origin.

This project was made possible by the generous support of the Deutscher Künstlerbund e.V. / Bundesprogramm /Neustart Kultur, which has been their partner for the past six months. As the competition title X-treme suggests, Ed he aim was to support women artists, feminist and gender-based, artistic positions in times of extreme crisis such as pandemics, political and financial instability or environmental crises.
The competition received over 170 submissions. all can be viewed online in a digital exhibition - some of the best contemporary women artists working in painting, VR and augmented reality, video, photography and installation. They are award-winning and established female artists, as well as young emerging talents. In this way, the online exhibition allows people to trace continuities and parallels in the female artistic practice of different generations.
